I have had B&C on my facebook account for awhile. I have noticed lately that they are on a massive campaign for "fair chase hunting". For a while I argued with them on the flaws of calling out other hunters for what they perceive is "unethical".
Daniel Boone and David Crockett have been heroes of mine since I can remember. The methods that they used to hunt and preserve the game they killed would have made them ineligible to be members of a group that bears their names. They were market hunters, using the means necessary to feed their families and communities. B&C seems to be more concerned about the size of antlers than they are about anything else. I have no problem with trophy hunting, In fact I encourage all legal forms of hunting. But I doubt The real Boone and Crockett cared too much about antler size.
I know we have talked about this many times before. but it still aggravates me that a well known organization can be so ignorant and narrow minded. A well known hunter once pegged them as "Cannibals and useful idiots'.
Maybe that famous hunter can put up his "Cannibals and Useful Idiots". always good to have a reminder.

Today's society is so reliant on store bought meats to the point where hunting seems to be a dying means of providing for our families. I too am a bit guilty of this as I don't get the chance to hunt and fish near as much as I'd like to because of work, lack of funds and a newborn child. So, now for some and maybe most people it's become a sport. They want the next biggest buck or boar. I was talking to a game warden the other day that said everybody is hunting off the big bucks and only them. They're not going for the ones with gene deformities and that could be the reason this particular area has so many off deer, being skin discoloration, size, extremity and antler abnormalities.

That is all true..But, I have no problem with trophy hunters, I prefer meat hunting, but to each his own. My concern is that the so-called "fair chase" hunters are narrow minded. They only want us to do things their way. They divide the hunters, giving the antis ammunition to destroy hunting all together. There are types of hunting that I prefer not to participate in, but I will not criticize others if they do.
Daniel Boone and David Crockett used the means that they had to provide food. They did not worry about other peoples ethics. B&C use their names but are completely opposite of what their namesakes did.
As I said in the original post. They would not be given membership to the organization that was named after them.

Right there with ya. Good post, I wish there was a way to educate folks on what "ethics" are. Seems nowadays that ethical means to outlaw hunting all together, like you said. (Sorry to copy you) To me, ethical means a good clean shot so the critter doesn't suffer and I get good meat. God put these critters on earth to supply food and conserve. I wish that people had someone like thunderheart educating them like he did for me. It's sad with some folks mentalities.

I also prefer meat hunting. And the rare situation I have had an issue with any hunter and what he did it was someone who shot a buck for his rack and the meat was wasted. Not donated, not given to their family, but left to rot. Certainly most "trophy hunters" are NOT that way but in those rare occasions that makes me just sick.

The old "I don't hunt that way therefore it's wrong" crowd. "I won't hunt over bait" but they use attractants, hunt natural funnels, near water or ag fields, etc etc. Freakin' hypocrites!
Trophy hunters have become a necessity, here and abroad. Take the guy who paid a couple hundred thousand to shoot an old black rhino. Rhino's aren't much of a challenge to hunt; they basically tell you where it hangs out, you walk up to it, and shoot it. He'll have it mounted and have a unique and rare trophy on his wall. The money he paid allows countless other rhinos and other game to exist.

B&C and P&Y are nothing more than ego boosters for a few and a "you wish you were us" homeowner association type of org.
Fact: In America 55% of bow owners tsrget shoot only 35% Target and bowhunt 10% bowhunt only
Fact: in America Hollywood has done more for the sport of Archery in 3 years than bowhunters, ATA, USA Archery, IBO, ASA, P&Y and B&C combined have done in over 30 years.
