The new hog trap is working well. I've set it twice now, one hog the first time and 5 this time. All 80lbs or better too. I had a guy come by that is hauling them to a buyer; we'll see what they bring. I shot 5 others over the weekend and if you live in TX you know that it was 100+ so I wasn't interested in cleaning 5 more.

Thursday morning I found 2 groups of hogs and a loaner. I missed on the first sounder, popped in the second but he crossed the property line, and whacked the loner. Then I checked my trap and had more action. One was hanging outside the trap, no doubt one of the sounder that was lucky enough not to get caught. He left off when I got near the trap but sort of wondered away instead of hauling a$$. I was able to get a round in him when through some trees so I got the whole sounder (I think).
Didn't mean to turn this into a trapping thread. I could bring a tripod & try to set it up to video the spot & stalks but it generally when I get near them I have to shoot pretty quick.

Sunday morning I PH'd one of my hunter's boys. He got a 125# boar. Watch the final second of the video carefully; good education on muzzle awareness.

Sunday morning's hunt. My farmer is disking the fields under now. On Sunday and Monday morning we saw 1 hog where he's disked. I got these in a field he hadn't gotten to yet. The days of easy hog-hunting may be over, for a while. They sure loved that barley; the corn in my traps is still laying there a week later.

Thanx Geno. With them eating all that barley the meat is exceptionally good right now. But butchering hogs in the TX heat gets really old really quick.

I built a second large hog trap & documented the build. It took around 20 hours to fabricate. I've been experimenting with FrameGrabber, which takes an image every 1/2 second and stores it into a video that get's played back at 30 frames/second, so the result is a sped-up video. (Otherwise it'd be 20 hours long.)

Caught a couple more 40# hogs Sunday morning. This will probably be the last I trap in the box traps for the remainder of the year.

Trapped 6 more last weekend in 2 traps. I set a 3rd trap but forgot to unlatch the gate so whatever at the corn got a free meal.
One of my hunters was on his way back to camp after the evening hunt and ran across 20+ pigs in a barley field. He shot at 3, and killed at least one. This trap was at the edge of that field, under 100m from where he shot the pigs. Less than an hour later we went to pick it up and these 5 were in it. I just left them until the next morning, and made this video to aggravate the petards.
The 22LR isn't killing as effectively as I'd like. I'm shooting them either in the back or the skull (if facing away) or right in front of the ear if they're broadside. I'd prefer not to use a much larger round because the rounds would pass through and could damage my trap. Suggestions?
