Busy weekend. Spotted a sounder of hogs in the south grainfield about 2PM. Went the long way around to put on a stalk and turns out they were all little piggies. Little ones grow into big ones that cause mega damage so I waited until they bunched up and put 300 grains into the middle of them. I got at least 2, one DRT and another I had to chase down on foot and then poke his heart with my pocket knife. I set all 4 of my hog traps in the afternoon before going deer hunting. Saw a couple fawns, two young bucks, and a really wide 8-pt that I couldn't make older than 3 1/2 so they all walked. A sow and piglet came in and ran the deer off so the sow got plugged. It was the most perfect shot in the history of pig-hunters because she died right next to the road. I cleaned the sow and the larger of the two piglets, then sat on the porch enjoying the evening. About 8PM I hear a big metallic bang and realized one of my traps had just sprung. I checked it out and it was a single 40-ish lb boar. Shot him and reset the trap, although nothing else touched the trap that night. Too much blood I guess... This morning I sat in a stand but the wind kept pretty much everything bedded down. I checked my traps and found these 5 in the smaller box trap. I think it was the same group I hassled yesterday. So I removed at least 7 of the dozen or so in the sounder; it's a start... In the corral trap I caught an old boar that will probably push 200#. He's got the biggest tusks I've seen yet on this ranch. I'll post a video of him in the other thread.

Shot a 4 1/2 year old doe Saturday evening with the 30.06. Here's the pic as I got out of the stand: I had a couple of choates in the small hog trap in the morning. There were 3 more hanging out with them. They took off when I came up on them but I was able to plug the one (brownie). That makes 93 hogs I've gotten so far this year.

Update on Spot: We had more rain this week and they tried to get him out today, but got the trailer stuck on the way in. They dropped the trailer and drove to the trap. Then they roped him and loaded him on the flatbed.

#5 for 2016, a 183# sow I took a wounded vet from Ft Hood hunting Saturday afternoon. He wanted a deer and/or a hog but preferred a hog. It was super-windy and I was thankful that we got a doe. Saw a sounder of hogs right before dark but couldn't close the deal. The next morning she was in one of my traps. It's a real chore to load ones this big by yourself... Anyway I called the vet up and asked if he wanted it as I've got plenty of hog meat now. He says yes so I field dressed it and met him near post. He gifted me one of his Damascus knives. Says these take about 60 hours to make. This generous gift will be on my belt for many years.
